[RECAP] 4-day STEM Education Workshop

Throughout the 4-day workshop on “Sustainable Delivery and Adoption of STEM Education Curriculum,” participants engaged in a variety of activities and sessions to address key challenges, promote access to STEM education in rural areas, explore the role of technology, and enhance teacher training. Here is a brief recap of each day’s activities:

Day 1:

  • Participants joined both onsite and online sessions to share their personal journeys in STEM, highlighting their experiences, challenges, and aspirations.
  • Onsite brainstorm bash sessions led by Emmanuel and his STEM Ignite team focused on discussing the key challenges facing STEM education in Cameroon and proposing strategies to address them.
  • Online sessions with Tiffany’s team at STARBASE, High Sierra Nevada provided insights into different cultural perspectives on teaching STEM and set the foundation for further discussions.

Day 2:

  • The workshop continued with a blend of onsite and online sessions.
  • Tiffany’s team led sessions on inclusiveness in getting and keeping students engaged in STEM, highlighting effective strategies and best practices.
  • Participants actively participated in the brainstorm bash sessions, sharing ideas and solutions related to increasing access to STEM education in rural areas of Cameroon.

Day 3:

  • Online sessions with Tiffany’s team delved into the engineering design process and its significance in delivering effective STEM curricula.
  • The sessions also explored the importance of Computer-Aided Designs (CADs) in enhancing children’s learning experiences in STEM.
  • Onsite participants continued their brainstorm bash activities, discussing the role of technology in supporting sustainable STEM education in Cameroon.

Day 4:

  • The final day of the workshop featured discussions on the contextualization and conceptualization of STEM education, focusing on adapting STEM to suit the specific needs and realities of the Cameroonian context.
  • Both onsite and online participants actively engaged in Q&A sessions, seeking clarification, sharing insights, and further exploring the workshop topics.
  • The workshop concluded with a sense of accomplishment and participants feeling equipped with knowledge and practical strategies to promote STEM education in Cameroon. Each participant got a certificate of participation. 
  • Throughout the workshop, the combination of onsite and online sessions facilitated global collaboration, knowledge sharing, and networking opportunities. The online sessions ensured that participants from different locations could actively participate and benefit from the expertise of both Emmanuel’s STEM Ignite team and Tiffany’s team at STARBASE, High Sierra Nevada.

The workshop aimed to empower teachers, trainers, and advocates with the necessary tools to effectively promote STEM education in Cameroon. By addressing key challenges, exploring strategies for increased access, leveraging technology, and emphasizing teacher training, the workshop fostered a collaborative environment where practical solutions for sustainable STEM education delivery and adoption in Cameroon were developed.

The Q&A sessions served as valuable opportunities for participants to engage in meaningful discussions, seek guidance, and share their experiences. Overall, the workshop provided a platform for knowledge exchange, skill development, and the cultivation of a supportive network of STEM education advocates in Cameroon and beyond.
